BMC & Property Guards Security Services "Clean-Up Mumbai" Drive
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's `Clean-Up Mumbai' campaign with G-7 Securitas Group Company - Property Guards Security Services Pvt. Ltd
Property Guards Security Services Pvt. Ltd is one of the top six private security agencies appointed by The BMC to make this drive a success story. Our marshals have been given the authority to fine people all over the city for spitting, urinating and littering in public places. We have been assigned wards A, C and D from Colaba to Marine Drive The civic body takes a monthly review of the clean up marshals to keep their performance in check.
For problems related to civic offender not complying with the marshals, the officials ensure if complaints were found, strict action would be taken against them. There are at least be 20-25 marshals in every ward and the whole drive involves active participation of these marshals at each and every step in recycling garbage. Previously, private property owners and housing societies were roped in and the corporation had levied substantial fines against those who failed to comply.
The campaign entails elaborate arrangements such as, initially the garbage from collection points used to be lifted only twice during the day and transferred to the dumping ground, in this case the frequency of garbage collection from the collection points was increased so that the waste does not lie on the road for a long time.
The campaign was first launched on August 16, 2002 in Mumbai with much fanfare amidst the galaxy of B-town celebrities and A-listers. Bollywood star Amisha Patel and talk-show host Shekhar Suman flagged off the campaign and the then deputy mayor Babubhai Bhavanji, civic chief K.C. Srivastava, Corporators & members of various NGO’s took an oath to keep the city clean.
The drive has had a wide support from youngsters & senior citizens, NGO’s, Ganeshotsav Mandals & corporate houses throughout the city. The civic unions too have pledged support & laborers have agreed to work even during festive days.
Property Guards Security Services Pvt. Ltd owner Mr. Vikash Verma stressed that apart from the law being enforced, the campaign, in its initial stages, will inculcate civic sense and endeavor to change people’s attitude, “Our main motto is not just to fine people but also partake action and the responsibility that comes along with it in a big way”. He also added that his marshals will ensure the concept of Clean - Mumbai is implemented wherever possible.
